When a group of visitors emerges into the daylight from the CERN nuclear research centre in Geneva on a sunny August day, all of Europe has fallen into a deep sleep: time stands still. The 70 “chronified” characters find themselves in a traumatic situation of loneliness, helplessness and murderous conflicts, until after five years, world time suddenly ticks on again for three precious seconds. In “42”, Thomas Lehr goes in search of time, whilst also questioning the power – and the limitations – of science.
