The jury has made its selection: Ten exciting start-ups from three countries will pitch for the five available places in the Börsenverein Group CONTENTshift-Accelerator 2021. A total of 44 start-ups from ten countries applied for this year's sponsorship programme, including applications from Finland, India, Canada and the UK. A wide range of ideas are represented in the top ten selection: Some involve new applications of artificial intelligence (AI), while other entries are dedicated to innovative and interactive learning content for children. Other topics include the digital comment function in books, new audio and reading formats as well as applications for reading recommendations.
All ten start-ups will present their business ideas at a digital pitch event on 23 June, where the jury will then select five of them. In the following months, these selected entrepreneurs will have access to an international network of investors as well as start-up and industry experts from the book and media industry. They will undergo digital coaching and participate in a co-creation workshop to explore their business models, current challenges and cooperation opportunities. The jury will select the "Start-up of the Year" at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October, which will be awarded 10,000 euros in funding.
The Accelerator programme is sponsored by companies from the book and media industry, which send members to the CONTENTshift jury. This year's panel includes: Detlef Büttner (Lehmanns Media Specialist Bookstore), Dr. Leif Göritz (Thalia Bookstore), Olaf Carstens (Cornelsen Publishing House), Dr. Stephan Dietrich (Junfermann Publishing House), Sabine Haag (Wiley-VCH Publishing House), Ronald Schild (MVB), Karin Schmidt-Friderichs (Börsenverein) as well as Deepa Gautam-Nigge (SAP Next-Gen Innovation Network) as a partner of the programme from outside the industry.
