Peter Kraus vom Cleff (53) will become the new Managing Director of the Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels (German Publishers and Booksellers Association) as of 1 January 2022. He succeeds Alexander Skipis (66), whose contract ends after more than 15 years of service. The decision in favour of Mr. Kraus vom Cleff was made unanimously by the Börsenverein's Board of Directors.
"We are delighted that by appointing Peter (Kraus vom Cleff), we have been able to enlist an outstanding leader in the book industry for this position of responsibility. Together with him, we aim on the one hand to stay on track in these challenging times, whilst on the other hand finding new compelling solutions to the challenges posed by digitalization and the Corona crisis", explains Karin Schmidt-Friderichs, Chairwoman of the Börsenverein. "I would like to thank Alexander (Skipis) for his many years of successful service to the association. He has played a major role in ensuring that the voice of the German book industry is heard both nationally and internationally."
Mr. Kraus vom Cleff said regarding his new role: "It is a great honour for me to succeed Alexander Skipis. It is a great endeavour to continue the Börsenverein's rich and successful tradition and at the same time to take up new socio-political and technological trends in order to make the cultural asset that is the book, fit for the future. However, it is an undertaking that I look forward to with respect and confidence in a successful collaboration with the highly-qualified team of the Börsenverein and its many voluntary supporters.”
Peter Kraus vom Cleff was active in various publishing houses of the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group for more than 20 years, most recently managing Rowohlt Verlag as Commercial Director since 2008. Before entering the book industry, the Wuppertal-born qualified economist worked for five years in foreign and group controlling at Mannesmann-Demag AG. In 1999, he began working for the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group, initially in controlling and project management in the area of trade publishing.
