German Non-Fiction Prize 2023: Experience the award ceremony live from the Elbphilharmonie concert hall

1 June 2023 is the moment of truth: the jury will announce who will receive the German Non-Fiction Prize 2023 in the Small Hall of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg. The award ceremony will be broadcast live from 6 pm. Cultural journalist and literary critic Katja Gasser will moderate the event. Katharina Fegebank, Hamburg’s Second Mayor and Senator for Science, and Karin Schmidt-Friderichs, director of the Börsenverein, will offer words of welcome to open the award ceremony. This is the third time that the Stiftung Buchkultur und Leseförderung des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels (Foundation for Book Culture and the Promotion of Reading of the German Publishers and Booksellers Association) is awarding the prize to an original German-language edition of an outstanding non-fiction book that inspires social debate.

In addition to the actual award ceremony, the German Non-Fiction Prize will also be awarded in the metaverse. The winner will receive a digital certificate inscribed on a blockchain. Several of the titles shortlisted for the 2023 award are available for a limited time as special limited edition NFTs (non-fungible tokens) at Creatokia, the NFT platform of the book industry. The Deutsche Bank Stiftung (Deutsche Bank Foundation) is the main supporter of the prize, which is also backed by the city of Hamburg and the foundation ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius. Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth is patron of the prize.
